Dear friends,
Below is the latest (July 2005) edition of Spirit of Freedom newsletter. We do apologise for the delay in our publishing of this edition. For the past month ELP has been investigating two of our listed prisoners on allagations they were police informants. ELP can now reveal that Angela Cesario and Jeremy Rosenbloom are indeed police informants and a full report appears below.
Also ELP has been asked, by the Swedish ALF.SG, to mention that Swedish animal rights prisoner Johan Jaatinen does not support the actions of the ALF. In the past Johan has been very critical of both the ALF and the ALF.SG and therefore the Swedish ALF.SG are not supporting Johan whilst he is imprisoned.
We hope you enjoy the below newsletter. Sorry its a lot longer than normal. If you no longer wish to receive the ELP e-mails please return this e-mail to its sender with "Unsubscribe me or Die!" written in the subject bar.

EARTH LIBERATION PRISONERS SUPPORT NETWORK
"Thank you for the support you've given me over the years. I really appreciate it."
(Craig "Critter" Marshall, former Earth Liberation prisoner)
Welcome to the July 2005 edition of Spirit of Freedom. As you will see below, ELP has been looking at our current prisoner lists and one or two peoples details have been moved from one list to another. For example, Eco/Peace prisoner Helen Woodson is now listed in the Ploughshares/Anti-War Prisoners list. The reason for the changes is to help give a clearer indication of why a person is currently jailed. You will also notice that we have a large number of new prisoners, some of whom do not speak English. A few supporters have contacted ELP saying they wish to support the new prisoners but they are worried about language barriers. ELP's advice to everyone is to send the prisoners a nice card with a picture on it. A photo of a beautiful place does not need words as its beauty is international. When the author of this editorial was imprisoned I received some lovely posters from India. I did not know what the posters said, but I could work out that they were animal rights posters. Just receiving the posters brightened my day. It was great to be reminded of the international scale of our movement and to know I had support from all around the world. So it really doesn't matter if you can't speak the same language as a prisoner. Send them a card anyway. Prisoners tell ELP they are surprised & amazed by the mail they receive from around the world. So please help to continue to amaze & surprise the prisoners. No matter where you are in the world, support the eco-prisoners. And no compromise in defence of Mother Earth!
COURT REPORTS & LEGAL UPDATES
THE LEECE FIVE
On 12/05/05 Italian police arrested 5 anarchists who they accuse of promoting, organizing, directing & participating in "an association for the subversion of the democratic order". All 5 are accused of damaging petrol pumps at Esso (Exxon) petrol stations in protest at the war on Iraq; targeting the multinational company Benetton in support of the Mapuche tribe in Chile whose land is being taken over & whose forests are being destroyed; supporting a revolt carried out by asylum seekers held at the immigration centre "Regina Pacis"; and damaging several cash point machines of the BCI Banca Intesa because of its links to "Regina Pacis".
Following their arrests 2 of the defendants, Marina Ferrari and Annalisa Capone, have been placed under house arrest. The other 3, Cristian Paladini, Saverio Pellegrino and Salvatore Signore have all been remanded into custody. All 5 welcome letters of support and are listed as Antifa prisoners.
FRANCESCO GIOIA ARRESTED
On 11/05/05, after nine months on the run, following his earlier escape from house arrest, Italian Il Silvestre defendant, Francesco Gioia, was arrested in Barcelona, Spain, during a joint police raid operation carried out by the Italian and Spanish authorities. As an Il Silvestre defendant, Francesco is accused of promoting and participating in direct action after Il Silvestre published, in their magazine 'Terra Selvaggia' (Wild Earth), a COR press release which claimed responsibility for some direct actions.
Following his arrest Francesco has been remanded into custody, in Spain, whilst he fights against his extradition to Italy. With the other Il Silvestre defendants, in May 05 there was a preliminary hearing and a trial date has been set for 05/12/05. ELP has also learnt that there are now eleven defendants in this case (three more than we previously knew about!). Whilst appearing in court, Alessio Perondi applied to be released from prison under house arrest. Due to his ill health this application was granted.
GREENPEACE ARE TERRORISTS?
In October '03 Danish Greenpeace activists hung an anti-Genetic Modification banner on the Agricultural Council building in Copenhagen. In May 2005, the individual activists who carried out the banner drop, along with the entire Danish Greenpeace organisation, were charged with trespass under new anti-terrorist legislation which allows not just individuals but an entire organisation to be charged with a criminal offence.
In June '05 Greenpeace was duly convicted under the "terrorist" trespass charges and fined 30,000 dkr (approximately 4,000 Euros). They also had 20,000 dkr worth of equipment confiscated. A spokeswoman for 'Greenpeace Europe' told ELP "Greenpeace Nordic were of course shocked to see laws intended to limit international terrorism being used to convict organisations whose work is based on strong principles of non-violence. Greenpeace has therefore appealed this verdict." Following Greenpeace's conviction, ELP has learnt that Amnesty
International has also voiced their concern for the consequences of this law. For more info see www.statewatch.org/news/2005/jun/04greenpeace.htm
TWO BELGIUM PRISONERS
Two men, Koen Van Keer and Stijn De Greve, have been remanded into custody in Belgium. The police claim that on the night of 26/05/05, the two men smashed the windows of both a McDonalds restaurant and a fur shop in Aalst. They are also accused of spraypainting the letters ALF at the scene of the actions.
ALEKSANDER "MILLER" TOMENKO
In Spirit of Freedom May 2005, ELP reported that Russian eco-activist Aleksander "Miller" Tomenko (who is a member of Rainbow Keepers) had been remanded accused of assaulting a neo-nazi. When Miller appeared in court he was found Not Guilty of the assault and cleared on all charges.
OLGA ALEKSANDROVNA NEVSKAYA
ELP has learnt that the Russian authorities are currently refusing to pass on mail they regard as "political" to eco-anarchist prisoner Olga Aleksandrovna Nevskaya (see Other Political Prisoners). For information on the type of material Olga can receive please contact her support campaign via PO Box 13, 109028 Moscow, Russia. Although Olga cannot read English
herself, the people running her support campaign can read English.
DOCTOR YURI BANAZHEVSKY
ELP is sad to report that we have had to re-add Dr Yuri Bandazhevsky to our prisoner list (see Other Political Prisoners). Yuri is the Belarus scientist who revealed to the world that the nuclear radiation around Chernobyl was worse than the Belarus Government had admitted.
Yuri was due for release at the end of last year. However rather than being released he has been moved out of his half way house and back to prison. He is now not expected to be released now until 2007. For more information see www.comite-bandajevsky.org
ROB & HARJIT UPDATE
Following their guilty pleas to lying to a Grand Jury investigating an ALF arson on two McDonalds restaurants (see Spirit of Freedom May 2005) American activists Robert Banks and Harjit Gill have both been spared from prison sentences. Rob was given a mere $500 fine for his guilty plea whilst Harjit was given six months in a half-way house. ELP sends our congratulations to Rob & Harjit on this outcome and we wish them well for the future.
AMERICAN SHAC 7 TRIAL UPDATE
In June 05 the trial of the American SHAC 7 started. However due to the ill health of one of the defence lawyers, the trial had to be stopped and the Judge declared a mistrial, ordering a re-trial for either later this year or in early '06. Following the "mistrial" declaration, the SHAC 7 support campaign put out the following statement: "This postponement by no means spells the
end of the SHAC 7 nor does it mean that the defendants no longer need our support. As has been said before, this case of monumental importance. Our rights--as activists, as campaigners to close down the vile laboratory Huntingdon Life Sciences, as defenders of free speech-are on the line and we need to continue to help fight this unjust case."
Naturally ELP will bring you any updates in this case as they occur.
MORE AMERICAN TRIAL DELAYS
For reasons which are unclear, the trial of Ryan Lewis, Eva & Lili Holland and Jeremiah Colcleasure, who are all accused of varying levels of involvement in a series of ELF arsons & attempted arsons, did not start on 20/05/05, but has been put back until later on this year.
MORE ITALIAN CENSORSHIP
As ELP supporters are aware, former Italian ALF prisoner, Sergio Maria Stefani, is currently under house arrest awaiting trial accused of being involved in a letterbombing campaign which has been linked to the anarchist group FAInformale. On the 26/05/05 the Italian authorities carried out 108 raids as part of their ongoing investigation into the FAInformale. According to the
police, the FAInformale, is an anarchist group that operates as independent cells and have carried out a number of bomb, letterbomb and arson actions. As a result of these latest raids ten more people where remanded into custody (five were later released on bail) charged with involvement in FAInformale linked activities.
To demonstrate the bogus nature of the charges, all of those arrested on the 26/05/05 are connected to the Italian Anarchist Black Cross. The ABC appears to have been targeted because they published an FAInformale press release in their prisoner support bulletin. The police have said that because of the press release the entire ABC bulletin is an illegal publication and those associated with it should be locked up!
CESARIO & ROSENBLOOM
ELP is sorry to inform you that we have had to remove Angela M Cesario and Jeremy Rosenbloom from our prisoner lists. Both of these people are police informants who have both made statements against Tre Arrow and both have agreed to testify against Tre in court. For several months there have been rumours & speculation about these two and suggestions that they have agreed to testify against their co-defendant Tre Arrow. ELP was aware of the rumours, but obviously we cannot label someone a police informant on the grounds of a rumour and we asked for evidence of their cooperation. At the start of June 05, one of Tre Arrows lawyers approached ELP with the evidence we required. We investigated the evidence in full and after a whole month of carrying out our enquires, which included being allowed to see legal documents which both confirmed Cesario and Rosenbloom have entered into a cooperation agreement and being shown the true extent of that agreement, ELP can confirm that these two are police informants and traitors to the movement. ELP would like to apologise to Tre and his supporters for having listed these two people. We also apologise to everyone who has written to Cesario and Rosenbloom as a result of seeing them on our lists.
PERVERT GETS 7 YEARS
In Spirit of Freedom November 2004, ELP reported that the American individual Justus Ireland, who is a convicted child rapist, carried out an arson on a lumber yard causing $1.5 million damage. Ireland tried to divert attention away from himself by spraypainting the letters ELF at the scene of his crime.
ELP supporters may be interested to know that the American courts dislike Ireland as much as we do and on 08/03/05 he was sentenced to 7 years Federal imprisonment.
INFORMATION REQUEST
ELP has recently seen a brief report about a Mexican, Felipe Arreaga Sanchez, who has apparently been framed for a murder he did not commit in retaliation for his environmental organising. ELP has not heard anything about this case and if anyone has any further information can they please contact ELP.
SUPPORT CAMPAIGNS UPDATE
ELP has learnt that the e-mail address, set up for Earth/Animal Lib remand prisoner, Chris "Dirt" McIntosh is bouncing e-mails. If you have any problems sending your e-mails, please let ELP know and we will make sure your e-mail reaches the right people.
MESSAGES FROM THE PRISONERS
Chris "Dirt" McIntosh, ELF/ALF remand prisoner, has recently asked his supporters to circulate the following message he wrote.
"Hello, my name is Chris 'Dirt' McIntosh. I'm currently locked up in Seatac FDC awaiting trial on charges of arson in connection with an ELF/ALF action that took place January 2003 against a McDonalds in Seattle central across the street from the Space Needle. I am scheduled to begin trial early October. I am a Green Anarchist who believes in freedom for all life, by any means necessary, and a return to the "old way". There should be no compromise with a system that has no respect for nature, that worships shiny metal and green paper instead of the mother from whose womb we are sustained. I no longer see the use or satisfying results of petitions and demonstrations. The truth is the crunch has come, and it's time for a feral rampage in everyone's heart!
When I was 16, I dropped out of and took off into the unknown to discover a life of freedom (until the cops interfered). It had its hardships, but the good outweighed the bad. I have been educating myself with real knowledge since then. This unfortunately becomes hard when you try locked up because they don't want us to learn anything or become stronger intellectually. So they give us shitty books. If there is anyone out there who finds it within their means to help me out with reading material that would be great. What I'm into reading is anti-civilization theory and stuff about early European pagan beliefs. Anything along those lines or a simple letter goes a long way too.
Thank you and no compromise in the fight for the earth and animals!
MUSIC C.D. ADVERT No ONE
An independent American music producer is creating an ELP benefit CD, which he hopes to sell to help raise money for the prisoners. For more info about

MUSIC C.D. ADVERT No TWO
Former American Animal Rights Defendant, Robert Banks, has created a CD to help raise money for his Co-Defendant Harjit Gill. All profits raised from the sale of the CD will go directly to Harjit. To buy a copy of the CD please contact ELP4321@hotmail.com and we will pass on your e-mail to Robert.
BOOKS 4 PRISONERS
The American group Books4Prisoners is creating a magazine, which will contain the writings & drawings of Earth & Animal Liberation prisoners. The magazine will be distributed free to ordinary American prisoners in Ohio and Indiana and, for a low cost, to anyone else who would like a copy.
Books4Prisoners is trying to introduce the general prisoner population to earth and animal liberation ideas and to help raise awareness and support for Earth & Animal Liberation prisoners. ELP is supporting Books4Prisoners in their project and to help reduce the costs of any European prisoner who wishes to contribute an article to the magazine, European prisoners are invited to send their articles, letters, poems & drawings, for the magazine, to ELP, BM Box 2407, London, WC1N 3XX, England. ELP will then send on your letters, articles, etc., to Books4Prisoners. Once Books4Prisoners has produced the magazine, ELP will naturally let all our supporters know and we will also let you know how you can get hold of a copy!
DEDICATION
This edition of Spirit of Freedom is dedicated jointly to Nicolas David Neira Alvares from Columbia and Zenon Diaz Necul from Chile. On the 1st of May 2005, 15-year old Nicolás David Neira Alvares, joined the anarchist block of a Mayday march in Bogota, Columbia. During the march the police attacked the demonstrators with tear gas and rubber bullets. Eight police officers decided to target Nicolas and the officers beat him with their sticks until he was unconscious. Despite being taken to hospital, the trauma Nicolás suffered from his beating was so extensive that doctors were unable to operate on him. A week later Nicolás died from his
injuries.
On the 11th of May 2005 in Malleco, Chile, 17-year old Zenón Díaz Necul of the Mapuche tribe was killed by a truck during a protest against people who had occupied the forests of the Mapuche people and had destroyed sacred elements to on a land. This is the second death of this kind, the first death occurred in 2002 when Alex Lemun was killed during a similar protest.
ELP's thoughts are with the families & friends of these two young men.
