i really want to leave my home and quit school. i can't take all the repression and rules. i want to live out my dreams. i really want to be a marine. but they wont take me until im 18 and have at least a GED. go figure, adults! should i run away and intern at a local militia of some sort to fatten my resume for the military, or stick it out in their mind prison? im so confused and my parents dont want me to join the marines because they say war isn't the answer. they've never understood me and i feel so alone. any help appreciated.

Joining the Marines sounds like a horrible idea. You think school is a mind prison?

you can't take repression and rules, but you want to join the military? the military IS repression and rules.

Well, that depends on how you look at SoulRiser. The military is repression and rules, correct, but it's voluntary. There is no law in the United States government, that can force military servitude, outside of war times, so Repression and Ruling is completely voluntary.
Now, as for this kid.
Don't go joining the milita. Chances are, they are unorganize, unbanded, and basically, just a bunch of idiots with guns. Some are well formed, disciplined, and can teach you alot. The rest of them are complete shit. I'd suggest that if you really have that much drive, then beat them at their own game. If they can play with you, you can fuck right back with them.
You think you're misunderstood now? Chances are, when you graduate, your Boss/CO, will not help you find yourself.

Once you've joined the military, it is very difficult to get out until your service is up, and there are tons of disciplinary measures you would face for disobeying orders, etc. If you're interested in freedom or autonomy, the military is the last place you'll find either. The militia movement in this country is pretty much right-wing whackos, but there are interesting militia folks out there who can teach you a lot about firearms (so can a lot of non-militia folks!).

That is true, and untrue at the same time. Here is the thing. Once you join, you have committed to it. You have voluntarily given up your freedoms, in order to find the common goal of multiple freedoms for the people. Now, while you technically, can get out until your service is up, you also don't have to sign up in the first place.
Also, you are given the option to quit, once you hit basic training. They may try to keep you in, but they most likely will not. BT is meant to instill a sense of what the worst is going to be like, and how to effective operate in a team. Once you're out of BT, it get's much different. Or atleast, that's what they tell me.

You can learn a ton more from the net then from any milita. Now, if you are really interested in learning about firearms, I'd suggest following the second amendment, and keeping your right to bear arms. There is no better way to learn about a gun, then to use one.
